Looking back on the posts I’ve written for this blog so far, there are many different fields and areas where amazing, thoughtful people are. Perhaps one of the core themes of many of those featured is their ability to take the bull by the horns, originate, and create when necessary.
My close friend, Casey Hilty, told me about a young woman who is the very embodiment of this.
Lauren Clements is a 16 year old who runs the non-profit “Ordinary Grace“, an organization aiming to lift the spirits of children and families facing the very challenging diagnosis of childhood cancer. Lauren started the organization last March completely on her own. She was determined to make her efforts as inclusive as possible: by creating care baskets for the child, small toys for the siblings, and mini care packages for the parents.
Lauren even travels to different cities where they have walks/runs for children who are affected by cancer — and visits with the aforementioned families personally — letting them get to know the thoughtful person behind the care basket better.
The depth of Lauren’s mission and character is reflected in this personal testimonial from a mother named Laurie:
“After we got home Jack received a package from a wonderful young lady named Lauren. We don’t know her, but she has made it her mission to make cancer kids happy. She sent a box full of gifts for both of our boys and they were thrilled! It is amazing that such a young girl has gone out, started her foundation, and is doing all she can for kids who have cancer. Thank you, Lauren. What an amazing young woman.”
I am certainly inclined to agree.
